Two young German men are in Stockholm in 1907 to appear in a variety show. When they suddenly find themselves without a job or any money, desperation leads them to horrible crimes. With the help of archived material, court records and coroner Eva Rudd, museum director Ola Nyman, historian Mats Hayen and forensic scientist Svante Lagman, David Lagerkrantz breathes new life into an old criminal case.
