When untold numbers of nutria suddenly vanish from the Louisiana marsh, veteran hunter Ronnie Adams finds his livelihood at risk and calls Troy Landry for help. As they search for clues, the swampers discover strange environmental changes, damaged wetlands, and an eerie absence of life.
